It was So Mush Fun this weekend!  After a full week of blustery winds, driving rain, and down right crummy weather, the skies opened on Saturday morning and the sun shined all weekend!!  I had kind of messed up our schedule this year and we had our event one week later than usual.  However, I’m sure glad I messed up as the weather was perfect.  Last week, the Mackinac Bridge was closed most of Saturday due to high winds so we would have most likely had to cancel the weekend.  There’s a few photos below of our festivities and more on Facebook.  Jess and he guides put together a really fun “Amazing Race” activity where everyone had to get clues and complete tasks around the dog yard.  No, we were not trying to just get extra chores done (although a couple tasks did involve poop scooping and hole filling!).  We’ve all recovered and are back to dog running and projects today.  Matt and Ed are working on putting a roof on our wood shed at camp, James is assembling 9 new platforms for our new dogs who are arriving this week, and Lyndsie and Rudy are putting new name tags on the dog houses.  (Kate is enjoying her day off in town!)  Michele Seng and Jess are on their way to Grand Prairie, Alberta Canada to pick up 28 dogs from Peter and Therese Bartlett.  Even though it seems like we have puppies coming out of our ears (and we do) we don’t have enough dogs for tours this winter.  So, we purchased all of Peter and Therese’s dogs and are really excited to meet them!  They have been working all summer on the Denver Glacier in Skagway, so I’m sure they are in great shape and ready to be loved up by tour guests this winter.  We also have a few temporary (canine) workers in our kennel for the winter thanks to Ian MacKenzie, Jim Warren, Joe Gutowski, and Richard Macaulay who loaded us dogs for the tour season.  We are always happy to put people’s extra dogs to work!

We had a fantastic Midwest Mushing Symposium last weekend and have finally recovered!  For those of you who attended, feel free to keep the feedback coming, we are already making plans for next year.  And, for those of you who did not attend, mark your calendar for September 29, 2012 in Curtis for a great time!  We had presenters and participatns from 13 states and 2 foreign countries.  Our full crew is here, 5 guides (Kate, James, Lyndsie, Matt, and Rudy), 1 kennel manager (Jess) and one nanny/assistant to Nate (Hilary).  We are all off to the Garden Bay Winery and Mackinaw Trail Winery today to do research for our wine and cheese tours this winter.  Nate is with Ed's parents today and Ed is going to enjoy a bit of quiet time at the kennel (which most likely means clearning the new area for his racing kennel and cutting firewood).  I've been training our guides for running dogs this fall, which means I get to ride along with novice quad drivers.  The dogs are all incredbily well behaved this year, no major chewing, thrashing or arguing!  We do have a few boys who would benefit from being neutered, so thanks to the donation of a recent sponsor, we have a neuter trip scheduled this week.  Nougat, Carver, Stickers, Cowboy, and Stinky Feet will be making the boys bus to Marquette on Wednesday.  The fall colors are in full bloom, so make a trip to the UP soon to see the magical colors.
